If you get to write your play for your life and business, it should be fun right? Well, why can’t you write that your business will be successful. That you will be able to Quarterback Without Touching the Ball while making more money, working less, having more fun, and experiencing true freedom?

Joint Ventures (JV) are a funny animal. But if not structured correctly and you come out on the short end of the deal, it won’t be so funny.

On the upside, JV’s can be one of the fastest ways to grow your business. JV’s should be a win-win for all parties involved. If that’s not the case then why do it?

The Small Business Administration (SBA) encourages JV’s for small business owners just starting out or those ready to expand to the next level in their business. I’m in the state of Texas and here we have the Texas Hub program. They also encourage JV’s. These agencies understand that small businesses are the driving force to changing the game during a down economy. They support large businesses mentoring small businesses.

The way the JV works is that the large business or the more experienced business would mentor the small less experienced business.

The first thing you want to do when you consider a JV is listening. You should already know what your objective is, so shut up and listen. You will learn a whole lot more about the person you’re talking with, the people you’ll be dealing with and the company. You’ll get a feel for their character, mission, and values. These things are key to know. You don’t want to do a JV with a company that has a bad reputation. Do you?

People have their different thoughts on the subject matter, but I believe your intuition plays a major part in this. It has never steered me wrong. If my intuition told me trust would be an issue, it was. If my intuition said they wouldn’t be able to back up their talk, meaning being able to delivery on what they were promising, they couldn’t.

Here are some key elements you want to look for and take notice of in your JV deal:

• Transparency
• Written Agreement
• Trust
• Good reputation in industry
• More Experienced and Successful than you

Without transparency, you will have a problem with trust. It’s like being married without trust there is no relationship. Transparency will allow everyone to know what’s going on and where everyone stands. It leaves little room for unknowns and questions.

I don’t care if you’re in business with your spouse or a family member. Trust me when I say, a written agreement is a must. And more so in a deal where family is involved. I could dig deeper here, but this is a topic where I could give many examples, which I do in my training programs. Okay, enough said here. I think you get the importance.

When looking for someone to JV with they should have a good reputation. Think about this. What if you JV with a company but no one in the industry want to work or deal with them? So, you have to do your homework on them just as they are going to research you and your company.

To have a true JV that is effective and beneficial for you, the small business, the company you’re going to JV with should have more experience, more sales, and more success than you.

I’d like for you to research 3 businesses you could possible JV with in the near future. Remember you want to have the relationship built before you need it.

Some may think this an odd question. That they already know the answers to this or that it is something complicated. Or, that of course, it takes MONEY; you know they already had it. They were already a millionaire.

What is it about the mind? You know, really millionaires are no different than non-millionaires. Besides looks, things are basically the same. They all come into this world the same way, breath the same air, and have blood flowing through their veins. Everyone have the freedom to set goals, have dreams, and be whatever they so desire. Whether you’re a millionaire right now or not, it doesn’t matter. Because I believe everyone has the opportunity to be a millionaire with the right mindset.

My husband and I were having one of our “thought provoking” conversations and we narrowed it down to 3 key factors. Drum role please…

The first key factor is Discipline – It’s just a matter of being in control. Having the ability to do something repeatedly. Or maybe a better word would be having some stick-with inside you and then you being able to control the voices you’ll hear internally and externally telling you to do otherwise. Having discipline is being able to stay disciplined enough to do the things that need to be done to become or remain a millionaire.

The second key factor is Commitment – Are you loyal to your goals? You know if whatever your goals are, you hold true to them and take responsibility for the actions it will take in implementing your goals and the mindset needed to achieve them. Ask yourself right now, whatever; your objective is right now, are you committed to them? Now what does that level of commitment feels like to you.

The third key factor is Motivation – I can’t tell you how many people I run into that share their goals and dream with me. Then they will go on and explain something totally different that they are taking action on. Or I see them and their actions are saying something totally different than what they said their goals were. You have to find your Bigger Why? It’s very rare for someone’s ultimate goal of making a million dollars and the way they plan to do just that to be one thing and their actions are totally different and off line of the objective.

Within you, you already have everything needed to accomplish your goals or reach your dreams. I know you have the discipline inside of you to accomplish whatever you desire. What I would like for you to do is maintain the discipline to stay the course and do some course correction long with way. Check your goal. Ask yourself, why are you committed to the goal or dream? Make sure your goal motivates you.  And that motivation is usually not the money. It’s something else more than likely. There is that Bigger Why. Whatever that bigger why is, you need to be clear on what it is so when you need that motivation, you can tap into it.

Your action item this week is to do a check-in with yourself. Make the decision on whether you would like to be a millionaire. Or maybe it’s 6 figures you want to reach. If your answer is yes, to either, make sure your actions are in line with the goals you have set. Dig really deep and find that bigger why. How would your life be different if your company was making 6 figures, a million dollars or more a year? Are you committed to that goal? If you have the discipline, a level of commitment, and the motivation then you’re well on your way to having a million dollar business.

Small Business owners are trying to build their business alone. Small Business owners think that building a business is easy. I’ve built several business and I can’t say that building any of them where easy.

Let’s say you’re going to build your own home. Would you actually do it yourself? Probably not.

What if I said, I’m going to build myself my dream home with my own bare hands (Now forget the fact that I have my own Construction company.) Is that insane or what? How could one expect to build a home without some type of training? We’re not born builders. You wouldn’t build your house without a mentor. Without some type of help. So what makes you think you can build your business without a mentor?

If you’re already in business, you know that building a business is not easy. Now it can be simple with the proper tools and resources. And these are things you would get from your mentor.

Many people have a misconception that mentors are free. Here again were talking about insanity. If someone was to be your mentor for free would that make sense to you? And then what value would you place on the entire experience?

And if a mentor helps you make money why shouldn’t they be compensated.

If you want to be fast track your success and eliminate some of the bumps along the way, you’ll want to get yourself a mentor.

I challenge you to take action. Start looking for your mentor today. Find someone that is vested in your success where it is a win-win for both parties and watch how your business soar.

You can’t actually have an effective conversation if you’re going to dominate the conversation. Are you effectively communicating with your customers and team members?
